Blinn College Pharmacy Technician Program graduates 34 students

Grads can now take national certification exams

Thirty-four students recently completed the Blinn College District Pharmacy Technician Program and are prepared to seek national licensure.

Pharmacy technicians measure, mix, count out, label, and record medication dosages according to prescription orders. They work closely with pharmacists to answer patient questions and correctly identify and manage medication inventory. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, pharmacy technicians earn a median salary of $33,950 per year.

The online program consists of three courses and 160 hours of training. Classes include pharmacology, pharmacy law and regulations, sterile and non-sterile compounding, medical safety, quality assurance, medication order entry, inventory management, billing, and information services.

Students completing the program were Allandra Colvin, Amanda Nichols, Amanda Tyson, Caitlin Huber, Carla Ortega, Chrysta Fernandez, Daniel Fowler, Delaney Britt, Haley Sweat, Jaelyn Barrow, James Vallier, Jillian Courage, Kailey Wilkin, Katie Peters, Kiana Dyer, Martha Lopez Palacios, and Misty Massie.

Also, Scott Salle, Shanna Rosario, Shelley Grubbs, Sidney Colvin, Stephanie Yates, Steven Guerrero, Sara Sepulveda, Australia Spells, Dakota Rivera, Felix Marquez Velazquez, Helen McCabe, Janet Castillo Lopez, Lawrence Vaughn, Jared Zolli, Carolina Rodriguez, Emely Lopez, and Teresa Sitton.

“Pharmacy technicians are not only vital in ensuring optimal patient care through medication adherence, but also in ensuring the quality assurance in the healthcare industry,” said Karla Flanagan, Dean of Technical and Community Education for the Blinn College District. ““I am excited that these recent graduates have taken this challenging career path. They will serve our communities well.”

Blinn’s program is certified by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB). Graduates are eligible to take the National PTCB Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam and/or the National Healthcareer Association Exam for the Certification of Pharmacy Technicians. After they pass the national exam, students can obtain their state licensure from the Texas State Board of Pharmacy.
