Blinn offers expert guidance to assist families in completing new FAFSA forms
New Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) has been released
March 6, 2024
As students and their families adapt to the new Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), the Blinn College District Financial Aid Department is offering support with informative sessions on Thursday, March 21, and Wednesday, March 27.
Designed to assist current and future students on the Brenham Campus, these sessions at the W.L. Moody Library (map) aim to simplify the application process by providing expert guidance for completing the 2024-25 FAFSA forms.
The schedule offers flexibility, with sessions available from 10 a.m. to noon, 2-4 p.m., and 4-6 p.m. on March 21, and from 10 a.m. to noon and 2-4 p.m. on March 27. No appointments are necessary.
Joshua Lowry, Director of Financial Aid and Scholarships at Blinn-Brenham, acknowledged the challenges posed by the delayed release and technical hurdles of the new FAFSA.
“With the late release and technical issues, requests for FAFSA assistance have been much higher than in past years,” Lowry said. “Attendance at outreach events has also been higher. We invite students and parents to take advantage of these sessions for FAFSA assistance and completion as soon as possible as well as to receive additional guidance on the next steps once the FAFSA is submitted.”
Students should make it a priority to complete the 2024-25 FAFSA as soon as possible for the fall 2024 semester. The new application has approximately 35 questions for most filers, compared to more than 100 in previous years.
In addition to the sessions, Blinn offers a convenient financial aid queue where students can request a call back from an advisor. The Buccaneer Financial Aid Queue is available at www.blinn.edu/financial-aid.
