All 11 graduates of Blinn College’s recent certified medication aide course have passed the state certification exam.
Eleven students completed the interactive video conference course held earlier this year on Blinn’s Schulenburg, Brenham, and Bryan campuses. Each then passed the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) Medication Aide Licensure Exam.
The students were Shannon Henry, Yoakum; Tamara Whitehead, New Ulm; Madison Wick, Giddings; Cassandra Carter, Somerville; Erica Farrell, Bellville; LaWonda Johnson, Brenham; Kantrese Stewart Williams, Brenham; Bridget Brown, College Station; Lacy Davis, Lexington; Patricia DeLeon, Bryan; and Constance Love, College Station.
“A 100% pass rate on the state exam is a testament to hard work by the students and our dedicated instructor, Linda Rabel,” said Dr. Becky Garlick, Executive Dean of the Schulenburg Campus. “We’re very proud of them.”
The next certified medication aide course is scheduled to begin on Sept. 11 and will run through Dec. 12. Classes will meet from 3-7 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays on the Schulenburg, Brenham, and Bryan campuses via interactive video conferencing.
The 140-hour course covers medical abbreviations, symbols, terminology, and common equivalents required for medication administration. Topics include drug legislation, drug references, basic anatomy and physiology, and common diseases. After completing the course, students are prepared to take the HHSC exam. Cost of the course is $805, not including a textbook, state exam fee, fingerprinting, and parking permit. Scholarships are available.
