Snoopy, Linus, and all your favorite Peanuts characters take the stage when the Blinn-Bryan Theatre Troupe (BBTT) begins its spring season with the musical “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown.” This production, only the troupe’s second musical, captures the innocence and joy of childhood through songs, dance, and laughter.

“The show is filled with fun songs that can appeal to a wide range of audiences, and we invite the entire family to come out and experience joy and happiness from this performance,” Director and Theatre Arts Professor Greg Wise said. “There’s nothing like being in the live theater, so I really encourage everyone to support their peers and our students as they engage with you and come alive.”

Based on the 1999 Broadway revival, “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown” features all the Peanuts gang’s most beloved characters, including bossy Lucy, who is hopelessly in love with piano prodigy Shroeder; perfectionist Sally, who mocks blanket-toting Linus; Snoopy in his doghouse; and everyone’s favorite “blockhead,” Charlie Brown. Spanning the months between Valentine’s Day and Beethoven Day, the show captures the highs and lows of these familiar characters through brief vignettes filled with optimism, despair, and everything in between.

Jordan Ingram, who plays Lucy Van Pelt, is excited to be playing such a dynamic character.

“Lucy is kind of the biggest bully of the whole show. She wants to run everything and be president, and be queen, but she’s also really there for her friends and her brother,” Ingram said. “It’s so fun playing her because she has a lot of confidence and nobody can shake her. No matter what she’s doing, she has her goals and achieves them most of the time.”

She’s also looking forward to seeing the audiences’ reaction to the BBTT’s months of hard work.

“I can’t wait to see what the audience laughs at and thinks is a really cute moment,” said Ingram. “The show reflects a deeper sense of family, friends, and gratitude. I hope the audience takes away the idea that no dream is impossible.”

Other cast members include Lizzete Velez as Sally Brown, Matthew Richards as Linus Van Pelt, Joshua Bowling as Snoopy, Caleb Simmons as Schroeder, and Matthew Burhus as Charlie Brown. Production team members are Wise, director and scenic design; Ashley Wienecke, stage manager; Karenza McRae, assistant director and assistant stage manager; Cynthia Bradford, musical director; Dr. Evleen Nasir, choreography; Jam Martinez, lighting designer; Michael Khama, projection design, Joy Falkinberg, costume and wardrobe supervisor; Caylin Darnell, sound design and operator; Madison Bailey, light crew and operator; Carter Crisp, house manager; and Chris Hockensmith and Mackenzie Owens, production assistants.

Performances run at the Blinn-Bryan Student Center ( Building F, map ) Thursday through Saturday, Jan. 30-Feb. 1, at 6 p.m. and Sunday, Feb. 2, at 2 p.m. Tickets are available at www.blinn.edu/boxoffice.
