Program Description:  Philosophy coursework develops critical and logical thinking needed for making sound, ethical decisions. Students in this major develop a love of wisdom and a respect for the nature of reality. The course work includes an area of concentration* of 12 hours in Philosophy. This degree provides the academic foundation for successful transfer and completion of baccalaureate degrees in the fields of law, medicine, politics, public relations, teaching, human resources, entertainment, and publishing. Philosophy majors outperform graduates of most other majors on the analytical, writing, and verbal portions of the GRE, the MCAT, and the LSAT.

AttentionStudents must visit with an advisor when they have completed 30 hours toward the degree plan (typically the end of the second semester).

Transfer Information

Philosophy degree provides a pathway to transfer to a four-year college or university where students can earn a baccalaureate degree. Students are strongly encouraged to select a transfer destination by the time they have completed 30 semester credit hours. Students should consult with their chosen transfer institution regarding recommended courses that will transfer and be applied to their baccalaureate degree program.
