If you are ready to make a difference in emergency situations, Blinn College’s Emergency Medical Technician Program can help you take the first step toward a rewarding career in emergency medical services.
This one-semester program prepares students for EMT-Basic certification through the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) and the Texas Department of State Health Services. This one-semester, six-credit-hour program is open enrollment, but all students must meet EMT testing requirements to participate.

Program Location
Courses are offered at the RELLIS Campus in Bryan and at the Waller Workforce and Technical Education Complex in Waller. Students must enroll in the lecture, lab, and clinical components simultaneously.

Lecture (EMSP 1501): Covers the didactic (classroom-based) content required to become an EMT.

Lab (EMSP 1501): Meets one day a week and focuses on psychomotor skills such as airway management and patient assessment.

Clinical (EMSP 1160): Meets weekly and includes clinical rotations for hands-on experience in real-world settings.
Clinical Experience
Students complete 96 clinical hours as part of the EMT Program. These experiences help students build confidence, apply classroom and lab instruction, and work with patients under professional supervision.

Ambulance Experience
Students ride third on an ambulance under the supervision of a clinical preceptor. Students must participate in a minimum of five Basic Life Support transports to a higher level of care.
Emergency Department Experience
Students work in an emergency department under the supervision of ER staff. During this experience, students encounter patients with a variety of illnesses and injuries across different age groups while performing skills at the EMT level.
Program Requirements

Students must maintain an 80% average in their coursework to qualify for clinical rotations.

An 80% or higher is also required on the comprehensive final exam to be eligible for the certification exam.

Students are expected to wear an EMS-style uniform and uphold a professional appearance and attitude at all times.

Although the program consists of seven credit hours, it is considered time-intensive due to its clinical and practical components.
