Blinn livestock judging teams dominate Top Notch Collegiate Swine Judging Contest

Blinn has won in its first two competitions of the season

The Blinn College livestock judging team has captured titles in its first two competitions of the season.

Blinn won the Top Notch Collegiate Swine Judging Contest held recently in Paragould, Ark. The team placed first overall with 2,844 points and won team reasons with 926 points. Lake Land (Ill.) College was second in both categories, with 2,787 and 906 points, respectively. Blinn also was the top overall team at its first meet, the National Swine Registry Southwest Regional, held earlier this month.

Blinn’s freshman team was the reserve champion in that division with 2,814 points and was second in team reasons with 916, only one point behind champion Northern Oklahoma College.

“This contest provided an invaluable learning opportunity as the freshmen competed at their first competition. It was a great chance for both teams to travel together and bounce ideas off each other, which helps set us up for future success,” assistant coach Adrian Austin said.

Blinn’s Dax DeLozier was the top individual overall in the sophomore division with 582 points. Teammate Kinsey Gardner was second with 580 points. Others from Blinn in the top 10 were Bryson Stone, eighth, 564 points; and Bella Chandler, 10th, 562 points.

In sophomore reasons, DeLozier was first with 190 points and Gardner was second with 189. Others placing in the top 10 were Cassie Bennett, fourth, 186 points; Weston Hinze, sixth, 185 points; and Blane Warnken, seventh, 184 points.

In the freshman division, Owen Seidenberger placed second with 580 points, Lane Hogan was seventh with 570, and Shelby Cones was ninth with 567.

Seidenberger was first in reasons with 190 points, with Laney Harryman, second, 186; Maggie Brumnett, seventh, 185 points; and Hogan, 10 ^th, 182 points.

Blinn will compete next at the Tri-State Fair in Amarillo, Texas, on Sept. 22.

Blinn’s Agricultural Sciences Program has one of the most active extracurricular programs in the state, including livestock judging, Agriculture Club, wildlife, agriculture mechanics, and horticulture.
