Blinn livestock judging team places third at State Fair of Texas

Freshman team is second overall in novice division at highly competitive contest

Blinn College’s livestock judging team placed third at the State Fair of Texas to continue its string of top-three finishes at the nation’s most competitive contests.

On Monday, Oct. 9, Blinn earned 4,622 points in reasons, cattle, sheep/goats, and swine at the contest held in Dallas. The performance continued Blinn’s success this fall, which includes first-place finishes at the Top Notch Collegiate Swine Judging and National Swine Registry Southwest Regional contests, and second place at the Tulsa State Fair, Flint Hills Mid-America Classic, and the Tri State Fair.

On Monday, Kinsey Gardner was the seventh-place individual at the State Fair of Texas, placing sixth in reasons and eighth in swine. Tanna Thiel was the eighth-place individual. Blinn’s Steele Kenney was the ninth-place individual and placed second in swine and sixth in sheep/goats. Zander Ivey was fifth and Holly Alderson ninth in swine. Cassie Bennett was ninth and Dax DeLozier 10 ^th in sheep/goats.

Blinn remained No. 2 in LivestockJudging.com’s national rankings.

The Blinn freshman team placed second in the novice division, compiling 4,150 points.

Shelby Cones was seventh high individual and Grant Kubala was ninth. Kubala placed second in sheep/goats. Lane Hogan placed seventh in reasons, Owen Seidenberger was fourth in swine and 10 ^th in sheep/goats, and Jakob Sansom was third in swine.

Blinn offers agriculture classes on all its campuses, with the W.J. “Bill” Rankin Agricultural Complex on the Brenham Campus serving as the program’s headquarters.
