Effective Date: - June 5, 2008, amended September 12, 2019
- Board Policy Reference:
- CHA
Purpose
The College District recognizes the need to balance an individual’s right to freedom from unmerited invasions of privacy with the institution’s duty to promote a safe campus community.
The College District uses video surveillance to:
- Deter unlawful acts and misconduct, such as theft and vandalism;
- Assist in identifying individuals who commit unlawful acts on College District property; and
- Assist law enforcement agencies with criminal investigations.
Only individuals selected by the Chancellor or designee may access the monitors and/or recordings made in the course of surveillance. The College District may use or disclose personal information contained on the recordings only for the purposes for which the College District collected the information, or as required by law.
The College District will not use surveillance cameras in areas where an individual would normally have an expectation of privacy, such as in public restrooms.
